Natural Sun Protection For Your Family Summer
Sun protection is vital all year, but now that summer is here and beach days are approaching, it's more important than ever. What is the issue? Many sunscreens on the market contain chemicals and substances that are more harmful than beneficial! Sure, they protect you from the sun's damaging rays and prevent sunburns, but there's a price to pay! Today, we'll discuss the disadvantages of "conventional" sunscreen and a natural alternative that provides a better approach to protect your family from the sun!
Why is it so necessary to protect yourself from the sun?
Unless you've been living completely off the grid for the previous few decades, you're undoubtedly already aware of the importance of sun protection. When it comes to sunburned skin, the sting lasts long after the burn has faded.
Did you know that even a minor sunburn might raise your chances of developing skin cancer? That burn isn't only causing your skin to turn red; it's also causing genetic damage to the cells that make up your skin.
In the best-case scenario, you'll get wrinkles far before your time. What's the worst-case scenario? Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that can spread to other parts of the body. There are a lot of cases of brain cancer.
That is why sun protection is so vital. But not just any sunscreen will suffice! Let's investigate why.
Why is it that you can't just use any ordinary sunscreen?
The Environmental Working Group, which created the Skin Deep Database to rate skin products on their safety, has published a detailed reference to sunscreen components that will make you think twice about buying any old sunscreen off the shelf.
The worst offenders, at a glance, are:
Oxybenzone- Causes a lot of allergic responses and has an effect on your hormone levels. It also ends up in oceans, producing serious issues for sea life, to the point where Hawaii, along with Octinoxate, banned it.
Octinoxate is a strong allergy and moderate hormone disruptor, similar to Oxybenzone. It also has a negative impact on marine life.
Homosalate - While not as bad as the other two, homosalate nevertheless causes hormone disruption and minor skin reactions in some people.
Doctors at the American Academy of Dermatology, on the other hand, continue to suggest sunscreen containing these compounds because they believe the "minuscule quantity" that passes through your skin and into your body isn't enough to increase your risk of health problems. Why take a chance when there are more natural and, in general, safer alternatives?
So, what should you use if you can't just grab the cheapest sunscreen off the shelf? Zinc oxide is the finest natural sun protection choice out of all of them.
Zinc oxide is the finest natural sun protection choice out of all of them.
What makes zinc sunscreen such a good option?
When applied topically, zinc oxide (the kind of zinc used in sunscreen) has an EWG rating of just 2, making it one of the safest ways to protect your family from the sun naturally (aside from avoiding the sun entirely).
It not only has a long track record of safety, but allergic responses are quite rare. That's not to say they don't happen (anything can trigger an allergic reaction), but the chances are far smaller. In fact, zinc is frequently used to treat rashes caused by allergic responses. Zinc won't mess with your hormones, and it won't get into your breast milk.
Of all, none of this matters if your skin isn't protected from sun damage, right? You'll be relieved to learn that zinc blocks dangerous rays better than most other chemicals, and it's the only sunscreen ingredient approved by the FDA for infants.
Sunscreens containing compounds such as oxybenzone and octinoxate absorb the sun's rays and break down UV energy. Zinc oxide, on the other hand, acts as a barrier against the sun's rays by laying on top of your skin. To put it another way, it's a "sunblock."

My Number One Sun Protection Recommendation
Babo Botanicals was the only option for a 100 percent zinc sunscreen spray a few years ago. Today, there are many more possibilities, but the original is still my favorite.

To begin, let me state unequivocally that this is not a sponsored piece. Babo Botanicals sends me samples now and again, but I only suggest them because I enjoy their products. They're natural, safe, and ideal for my family. There are other natural sunscreen options available, but my favorite is the Sheer Zinc Continuous Spray Sunscreen, which is easy to apply and won't stain your clothes. There is only one chemical in it: Zinc Oxide.
When Baby Botanicals offered me their Swim Collection Shampoo and Conditioner for review a few years back, I was instantly smitten. The fresh scents and high quality of their products truly appealed to me.
Since my son was a baby, I've been using shampoo and conditioner. They're great since, unlike other kinds I've tried before, they don't irritate my kids' eyes.
All Babo Botanicals products are developed with an antioxidant and vitamin-rich certified organic nutri-soothe blend. Their products are free of parabens, formaldehydes, phthalates, and other potentially harmful substances. They are, in my opinion, the greatest on the market.
As a mother, I'm constantly concerned about the potentially harmful compounds found in many sunscreens. Because Babo Botanicals' sunscreen is natural, safe, and effective, I can now relax and enjoy being outside.
